Down in an ancient forest there stands a mighty tree and if you come you won't believe some of the things you'll see. For if you look into the hollow you'll see a tiny stair which leads down to a village and the fairies who live there.

I left my love in the Fairy Glen
Home of the little fairy men
I met her there on a July night
When a Summer moon was beaming bright.
For my love was the Fairy Queen
In Fairyland she reign supreme
She wore a glittering diamond cloak
Queen of the little fairy folk.

The spinning-wheel flies round and sings
The owls work hard for hours.
They're making fairies' frocks and wings
From spiderwebs and flowers.

She was only about three inches high, but her tiny form was full of grace, and her eyes so bright and beautiful that they shone like stars. Her hair was the palest silver-gold, and she had a crown of diamonds and an amethyst wand that sparkled when she moved it. The scarf wreathed about her shoulders flashed all the colors of mother-of-pearl, and throwing it from her she hummed to herself a little song about violets and eglantine, and sweet musk roses. It is Titania who sings, Queen of the Fairies.

Seated on the edge of a mauve crocus was the
most delicious little being. She was dressed
all in filmy stuff the colour of the crocus.
A wreath of flowers was wound round her
wavy hair, and from her shoulders sprang a
pair of shimmering sheeny wings.
